Although we have no official information about the new compact camera from Nikon, the new P7000, Nikon Rumors found out some interesting details. To compete with the Canon G11, Nikon will change the old sensor 1/1.72 “13.5 MP to a new one 1/1.7 and a resolution of only 10 MP.This means that they will have a slightly larger sensor with a lower resolution. A lower density of MP / cm ² should bring an increase of picture quality very desirable for a compact top.
Moreover, Nikon could change the objective of 28-112 mm (4x optical zoom) with one of 28-200 mm f/2.7-5.9 (7x optical zoom) with f/2.8-5.6. Another rumor regarding the new Nikon P700 is that it could allow shooting with 8 frames per second.
An official announcement about the Nikon P7000 is expected in the near future, given that this fall Canon could present us a G12.
